BOSSE – Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education

BOSSE – Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education, Sikkim is an Open School Board to cater to the varied academic needs of the divergent groups of students upto pre-degree level including Secondary and Senior Secondary and Skills & Vocational education. The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education, Sikkim Act 2020 was passed on 21-09-2020 by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly stated under Act No. 14 of 2020.

NIOS - National Institute of Open Schooling

National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) or (NOS for National Open School) is the Board of Education for open schools in India. One could also say that it’s a school of open learning. This autonomous open school board in India was established by the Government in 1989. (NIOS) administers the secondary and senior secondary examinations of the open school system, which are equivalent to the CBSE and the CISCE exams.

NWAC/Cognia (Formerly Advanced)

The Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools was formed as a voluntary organization on April 5, 1917 with a membership of 25 secondary schools and eight higher institutions in four Northwestern states. By December 2007, this membership increased to over 1900. Presently, the organization accredits in seven states: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.


In December 1974, the title of the organization was changed to: Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. In December 2001, the association’s name was changed to the Northwest Association of Schools and of Colleges and Universities, and on February 1, 2004 the association’s name was changed to the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. In 2010, as a result of a restructuring plan, the name was changed to Northwest Accreditation Commission.
